We Teach People to Fly . . .

That depends upon how much time you are willing to invest in your book work and in your flying.  The FAA has a minimum flight requirement of 40 hours.  However, FEW people are PROFICIENT for the practical test in only 40 hours!  The national average for student pilots to become proficient for the practical test is now about 78 hours.  That’s because most student pilots either have careers and/or families, or they are students (sometimes with careers and families).  You cannot just write a check and show up for your lesson.  Learning to fly is work and it requires commitment.

Each of us has to pass a basic flight physical, a written test, and a practical test.  The written test is made up of multiple choice questions that are published every year.  The practical test consists of maneuvers that you learn as a student pilot.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I have to do to get my license?

How long does it take to prepare?

How much does it cost?

Again, that depends upon your commitment.  If you arrive for a flight lesson without doing your homework, you’re wasting money.  Some people don’t care about the money, they’re just enjoying being in the sky and looking out the window.  Some people just enjoy the “process” of learning to fly; much like a quilter enjoys passing time by piecing a quilt.  When they’re done, they have a quilt.  However, you can save money by reading the materials and watching the videos before you go to the airport.  People have finished their license with as little as $5,000.  Others have spent over $10,000.  If you don’t study and drag out the flight training by not flying frequently, (so you have to be remediated when you do fly)  it will cost more.  How much the license costs depends on your commitment.

But. . . We’re in the U.P.!  Can I fly in the winter?

The preflight is kind of a bummer. . . But flying in the winter is wonderful.  The air is so clear that you can see for a hundred miles.  And the airplanes LOVE the cold dense air.  The engine performance is fantastic.
