We Teach People to Fly . . .

The Lewises are Ambassadors for Upper Peninsula Aviation!

John Lewis, Agate Beach Aviation, led 62 airplanes containing 130 visitors to Houghton on the U.P. Wilderness Air Tour the weekend of September 7-10, 2006. Five of the airplanes were from Canada, and others came from 7 states. Over 50 of the air tourist planes are shown at CMX in this photo, taken by Marcelaine before the departure on Sunday morning.

In  a three day long event in July, 2005  Marcelaine organized the painting this beautiful compass rose at CMX!  It was on the front page of UP papers and on television for several days. Included in the event was an airplane blessing and worship service.

On 9-9-06 Cynthia Madson, North Central Governor presented the Northwooods 99s Charter to Marcelaine, the Charter Chapter Chairman.  The chapter made aviation activities accessible to the UP women pilots.

Master Certificated Flight Instructors

There are approximately 85,000 CFIs in the United States.    Marcelaine and John are among the first three hundred of them who have achieved the Master CFI distinction thus far.

The Lewises are one of only four “Master Couples” in the world.

The Master Instructor designation is a national accreditation recognized by the FAA that is earned by a candidate through a rigorous process of continuing education and peer review.  Much like a flight instructor's certificate, it must be renewed biennially.  This process parallels the continuing education regimen used by other professionals to enhance their knowledge base while increasing their professionalism.

Simply put, the Master Instructor designation is a means by which to identify those outstanding aviation educators, those "Teachers of Flight," who have demonstrated an ongoing commitment to excellence, professional growth, and service to the aviation community.

In 2006, the Grand Rapids Federal Aviation Administration named Marcelaine

The Flight Instructor of the Year.

In 2006, John was named a FAA Gold Seal Instructor.
